A delightful dessert that combines sweet apples with a buttery crumb topping, perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for drizzle)
  • 2 tablespoons apple juice (for drizzle)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (for drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the buttermilk.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples.
  6. For the crumb topping, mix together oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts (if using). Cut in melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the crumb mixture on top.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. For the drizzle, whisk together powdered sugar, apple juice, and cinnamon until smooth.
  10. Drizzle over the cooled cake before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
