Fast, flavorful pepper steak made with thinly sliced sirloin, bell peppers, and onions, ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced across the grain
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. Toss the beef strips with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch in a bowl. Mix until evenly coated, and let sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium high heat until hot. Add the vegetable oil and swirl to coat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sauté about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the marinated beef in a single layer. Let it sear without moving for 30 to 60 seconds, then stir and cook until browned and just cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Remove from the pan or push to the side.
  6. Add the sliced bell pepper and onion to the hot pan. Stir-fry until they are tender but still have some crispness, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  7. Return the beef to the pan and toss everything together. Taste and season with salt and black pepper as needed.
  8. Serve the pepper steak hot over steamed rice or toss it with noodles.

For gluten free, use tamari in place of soy sauce and ensure oyster sauce is gluten free. Swap beef for thinly sliced flank or skirt steak if desired.
