Soft, sweet, and perfect for any occasion, these classic sugar cookies are easy to make and a delight to decorate.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and salt. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  5. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and roll the balls in the granulated sugar.
  6. Place the cookies onto ungreased cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Freeze for longer storage.
