A luxurious twist on traditional French toast that combines the creamy richness of crème brûlée with the comforting essence of breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Slice your French bread into thick slices and arrange them neatly in the baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until everything is well incorporated.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure every piece is soaked in the custard.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for even richer flavor.
  6. Just before baking, sprinkle the top with brown sugar for that signature caramelized finish.
  7. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until the bread is golden and the custard is set in the middle.
  8. Serve warm and, for an extra special touch, you can torch the top to create a beautifully caramelized layer.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for better absorption. Refrigerate overnight for intensified flavors. Torch just before serving for optimal texture.
