Deliciously crispy on the outside and tender inside, these sweet potato fries are a healthier alternative to deep-fried versions, perfect for any meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (smoked paprika optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking sheet inside to heat up.
  2. Wash and optionally peel the sweet potatoes, then cut them into 1/4 inch thick fries.
  3. Soak the cut fries in a bowl of cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  4. Drain and spread the fries on paper towels, patting them dry.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the dried fries, olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cornstarch, tossing until evenly coated.
  6. Remove the hot baking sheet from the oven, spread the fries in a single layer, and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  7. Once golden and crisp, remove fries from the oven and allow to rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Choose firm sweet potatoes without soft spots. For a lower oil version, use 1 tablespoon oil and add 1 tablespoon water near the end for steaming.
