Delicious and easy baked cinnamon sugar donuts that are soft, lightly spiced, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (for the batter)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (increase to 1 1/2 tsp for bolder flavor)
  • 1 cup milk (use almond or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly (can replace with melted coconut oil)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (for brushing after baking)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly grease a standard donut pan.
  2. Whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and 1 tbsp cinnamon in a large bowl.
  3. Combine the milk, egg, 1/2 cup melted butter, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl and whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag or zip-top bag and pipe into the donut pan, filling each cavity 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 8 to 12 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool in the pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  8. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon in a shallow bowl for the coating.
  9. Brush warm donuts with 1/4 cup melted butter and roll in the cinnamon sugar until evenly coated.
  10. Serve warm, or cool completely on a rack.

Notes

For dairy-free options, substitute butter with coconut oil and milk with plant-based alternatives. Ensure to cool donuts before sealing to prevent sogginess.
