French Strawberry Cake

A delightful dessert combining light sponge cake with sweet fresh strawberries, topped with whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup whipped cream for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in milk and vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool completely before removing from the pan.
  8. Layer sliced strawberries over the top of the cake and add whipped cream as a topping. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, use fresh strawberries and room temperature butter. Do not overmix the batter.
