A classic breakfast dish featuring thick slices of bread soaked in a sweet, creamy egg mixture, cooked until golden brown and served warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices brioche bread (or other thick-cut bread)
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup (or granulated sugar)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Butter or cooking spray (for cooking)
  • Butter and maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Crack the eggs into a wide, shallow dish.
  2. Add the milk, maple syrup, vanilla, and cinnamon, and whisk until well combined.
  3. Heat butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat (or spray with cooking spray).
  4. Dip the bread into the egg mixture, flipping to coat both sides.
  5. Place soaked bread in the skillet and cook for a few minutes on each side until golden brown. Repeat with remaining bread, adding more butter or cooking spray as needed.
  6. Serve warm with butter, maple syrup, and fresh fruit, as desired.

Notes

Use thick bread for the best results. Soak the bread long enough to absorb the egg mixture without getting too soggy.
