Hearty ground beef, sweet sautéed onions and peppers, and gooey melted cheese all nestled in a soft hoagie roll – comfort food at its finest!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference)
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Pour a drizzle of olive oil into a large skillet and heat it over medium-high.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until they become tender. Add mushrooms, if using, and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Push the veggies to the side. Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly for about 2 minutes.
  5. Lower the heat, place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture, and cover the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
  6. Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
  7. Spoon the warm beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
  8. Toast the rolls briefly before serving, if desired.

Notes

For an extra kick, swap out the mushrooms for jalapeños or other veggies.
