A quick, savory skillet meal featuring seasoned ground beef and crisp cabbage in an umami-forward sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cups green cabbage, shredded
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the sesame oil.
  2. Cook the onion until soft, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Crumble in the ground beef and brown until cooked through.
  4. Stir in the shredded cabbage and toss until it wilts slightly.
  5. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, ground ginger, red pepper flakes, and season to taste.
  6. Cook briefly until the sauce thickens just enough to coat the beef and cabbage.

Notes

Use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce for lower sodium; avocado oil can replace sesame oil if desired. Fresh ginger can replace ground ginger; use about 1/2 teaspoon grated.
