Delightfully rich and chewy chocolate chip cookies with a hint of brown butter for added flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup (168 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cup (220 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt + more flaky sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 1/2 cups (255 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or roughly chopped chocolate

Instructions

  1. Place the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring every 10-15 seconds until golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, blend the cooled brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar with a silicone spatula.
  3. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Add flour, baking soda, and salt, folding together until no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chill the dough in the fridge for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Remove dough from the fridge, let it sit for 20 minutes, then scoop balls onto the prepared sheets.
  8. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes until puffy and lightly golden, sprinkling with flaky sea salt if desired.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet briefly before serving.

Notes

Chilling the dough is essential for flavor and texture. Don’t skip the flaky salt on top for enhanced taste.
