Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter and mix until crumbly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and vanilla.
  5. Pour the yeast mixture and egg mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until combined.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  8. Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick and cut out doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter.
  9. Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry each doughnut until golden brown on both sides.
  10. Let them drain on paper towels, and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
