  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (milk, semisweet, or a mix)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter with granulated and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, stirring in the vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips evenly.
  7. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes, up to 24 hours.
  8. Portion rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each.
  9. Bake for 9 to 12 minutes, until the edges are golden and centers look slightly underbaked.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for deeper flavor and a better texture. These cookies can be customized by adding nuts or using different types of chocolate.
