A comforting classic dish featuring juicy beef patties paired with rich, flavorful gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Shape the mixture into oval patties, about 1 inch thick.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  4. Transfer the patties to a plate and keep warm.
  5. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  6. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms; stir to coat.
  7. Whisk in the beef broth and Dijon mustard. Bring to a simmer, allowing it to thicken.
  8. Return the patties to the skillet, simmering in the gravy for 3-4 minutes.

Notes

Use fresh ground beef for optimal flavor and allow patties to rest after cooking to retain juiciness.
