A cozy and flavorful banana bread enriched with brown butter and chocolate chips, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 cup sugar (or 3/4 cup for less sweetness)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a standard 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Brown the butter in a light-colored skillet over medium heat, swirling until foamy with tiny brown bits. Let cool slightly.
  3. Mash the bananas in a large bowl, then stir in the warm brown butter.
  4. Add sugar, egg, and vanilla extract, whisking until combined.
  5. Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture, stirring to incorporate.
  6. Fold in the flour with a spatula until no streaks remain; do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in chocolate chips, saving a few for topping.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 60 to 65 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. If browning too fast, tent with foil for the last 15 minutes.
  10. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a vegan version, replace butter with plant-based butter and use a flax egg.
