A satisfying, no-fuss comfort meal with seasoned ground beef and gooey cheese grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 4 slices cheese (cheddar or American)
  • 4 slices bread (white or sourdough)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, pickles

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium. Add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic.
  2. Cook, breaking the beef into small pieces, until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 6 to 8 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  3. Season the cooked mixture with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Taste and adjust seasoning. Remove the skillet from heat and set the beef mixture aside.
  4. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice.
  5. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a clean skillet set to medium heat.
  6. Pile half of the beef mixture onto the bread in the skillet. Top the beef with two slices of cheese.
  7. Cover with the second slice of bread, buttered side up. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  8. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted, another 3 to 4 minutes.
  9. Remove from the skillet, let rest for 1 minute, then slice and serve warm with optional lettuce, tomato, or pickles.

Notes

For a lighter version, use turkey or plant-based ground beef alternatives. For gluten-free, choose GF bread.
