Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 sticks real butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Walnut pieces, optional, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine the softened butter, granulated sugar, and packed brown sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Beat until the mixture is creamy and fluffy.
  4. Crack the eggs into the bowl one at a time, adding the vanilla extract.
  5. Beat until the mixture is light and airy.
  6. Whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  8. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and walnuts if using.
  9. Scoop dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  11. Let the cookies rest on the sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

For a nut-free batch, omit walnuts and add an extra 1/2 cup chocolate chips or toasted oats. You can chill scooped dough for 20-30 minutes before baking for thicker cookies.
