A flavorful and quick Korean ground beef bowl, perfect for busy weeknights. Ground beef is cooked in a savory soy sauce, served over rice, and topped with green onions and sesame seeds.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten free)
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or short-grain)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook until browned and no pink remains, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  2. Drain off any excess fat from the pan to prevent the sauce from becoming greasy. Return the pan to medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet. Cook, stirring, for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant but not burned.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer gently for about 5 minutes so the sauce reduces slightly and coats the beef. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. Divide the cooked rice between bowls, spoon the beef mixture on top, and garnish with chopped green onions. Drizzle sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds if using. Serve immediately.

Notes

For vegetarian version, use crumbled firm tofu or a mix of finely chopped mushrooms and plant-based ground meat. Can swap soy sauce for low-sodium or kosher based on salt preference.
