A decadent casserole combining buttery croissants and a rich egg mixture, perfect for brunch gatherings or leisurely breakfasts.

Ingredients

  • 4 croissants, torn into pieces
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled beef or sausage (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread out the torn croissant pieces evenly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon until well blended.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the croissant pieces, gently pressing down to ensure they soak up the flavor.
  4. Sprinkle shredded cheese and the optional cooked beef or sausage over the top.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Serve with fresh fruit, light salad, yogurt, or pair with mimosas for a brunch feast. Add fresh herbs for flavor.
