Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs, chopped

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes, until cooked through.
  5. Boil the cubed potatoes in a pot of cold water until tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain well.
  6. Return the potatoes to the pot. Add the cream, butter, garlic powder, and chopped herbs. Mash until smooth.
  7. Plate the garlic herb mashed potatoes and top with meatballs and pan sauce.

Notes

For a dairy-free mash, use plant-based milk and a neutral oil. For leaner meatballs, opt for 90/10 ground beef.
