A warm and comforting Southern classic featuring tender chicken in a rich gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken with salt, pepper, paprika, and onion powder.
  2. Dredge the chicken pieces in flour, shaking off the excess.
  3. Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the chicken and brown on both sides, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  5. Sauté the diced onion and garlic in the same skillet until soft.
  6. Gradually add the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the pan to release browned bits.
  7. Return the chicken to the skillet, cover, and reduce heat to low.
  8. Simmer for about 30-40 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and gravy thickens.

Notes

Use bone-in chicken for added flavor and juiciness. Adjust the thickness of the gravy by adding more or less flour.
