A cozy, low-effort dinner of tender chicken in a sticky-sweet garlic sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, ketchup, minced garlic, grated ginger (if using), vinegar, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Place the chicken in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over it, ensuring it is well coated.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. Optional: To thicken the sauce, remove the chicken, whisk cornstarch and water together, and stir into simmering sauce for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
  6. Return chicken to the slow cooker and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

For less sweetness, reduce honey to 1/4 cup and add a splash more vinegar. Low-sodium soy sauce helps keep the dish from tasting overly salty.
